Sacre Bleu!

27th January 2013
On Saturday afternoon, for those of you lucky enough to be at Cheltenham or, if you were like me, watching on Channel 4 Racing, you would have witnessed a sublime performance by our next equine superstar.

Following in the hoofsteps of Kauto Star over jumps and, of course, the mighty Frankel on the flat, we now have an incredible 2 mile chaser to savour in the winter months, the awesome Sprinter Sacre! With 7 wins from 7 starts over the larger obstacles, he may just turn out to be the best 2 mile chaser we have ever seen.

In conditions that would normally sap the energy of a highly rated horse, Sprinter Sacre treated his rivals with utter disdain. Jumping Cheltenham’s fences with ease; he gained several lengths through the air and eventually trotted over the line 14 lengths clear in the prestigious Victor Chandler Chase.

His trainer Nicky Henderson gave an insight to this magnificent animal by saying “he knows he’s special, and the public do now, too!”

Sprinter Sacre is now long odds on to land the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the festival in March and defeat seems ridiculous to contemplate; let’s hope we can enjoy this unbeaten chaser for many years to come.
